Many teenagers are experienced They often use cosmetics face cream aside from illegal cosmetics. Betel leaf extract (Piper crocatum) contains saponin and tannin compounds that can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. In addition, cosmetics that made from herbs are more safer to be used. This study aimed to determine antibacterial activity of the betel leaves and antiacne formulation. This research was conducted experimentally by examine antibacterial activity and create a formulation. Extraction of red betel leaf (P. crocatum) using 96% ethanol by maceration method. The extract which is acquired from the procedure is used to analyze antibacterial activity and make formulations for peel- off gel masks. To test the antibacterial activity several concentrations were made, viz. 200 mg / ml, 100 mg / ml, 50 mg / ml, 40 mg / ml, 30 mg / ml, 20 mg / ml, 10 mg / ml, and two concentration viz. 2.5 % and 5% for gel mask formulations. The results showed that the ethanol extract of the betel leaves could inhibit the growth of Staph. aureus bacteria which was characterized by the presence of inhibitory zones. The highest inhibition zone against this bacteria was observed on extract concentration 200 mg/ml i.e 19.5 mm in diameter, while the lowest inhibition zone was shown by concentration 10 mg/ml i.e 4 mm in diameter. Each formulation at the concentration of 2.5% and 5% contained a pH that matches on the skin. However, the formulation at the concentration of 5% recorded a long drying power. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of the betel leaves (P.crocatum) has an antibacterial activity because it can inhibit the growth of the Staph. aureus bacteria.
