Infectious diseases are still at the top of the list of causes of morbidity and mortality in developing countries, including Indonesia. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are the main cause of infection causing a significant increase in the use of antibiotics. The continuous use of antibiotics creates resistance and side effects of therapy. The leaves of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) are a plant that is used as a traditional medicine which contains flavonoids, tannins and saponins which have antibacterial effects. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of starfruit leaf extract (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) as an antibacterial and extract indicator that can produce the slowest zone in inhibiting the growth of S. aureus bacteria. The research was carried out experimentally. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria will be tested with starfruit leaf extract with a concentration of 10%, 20%, 40% and 60% respectively. The positive control treatment will be given tetracycline and the negative control treatment will be given Dimethyl Sufoxide (DMSO). In this study, a completely randomized design (CRD) was used. Each treatment was carried out 3 times. In this study, the ethanol extract of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) can be canceled, which has antibacterial activity which can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria by forming an inhibition zone (mm). The zone of inhibition that is greatest in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is a concentration of 60%.
