Gelinggang leaves (Cassia alata L.) are often used by the public as a traditional medicine for healing skin diseases and infectious wounds in the presence of phytochemical compounds contained in the leaves, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, saponins and steroids. This study aims to determine the effectiveness and inhibition of Gelinggang leaf extract against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The research conducted was experimental. The object studied was the Gelinggang leaf which was made in the form of an extract using the maceration method with 96% solvent. The concentrations of ethanol extract of Gelinggang leaves used were 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% with Erythromycin positive control and DMSO negative control. The antibacterial activity test used the disc diffusion method by looking at the zone of inhibition that was formed around the disc paper. Based on the research results, the antibacterial activity test showed that the ethanol extract of the leaves of Ge;inggang had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. With a concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% respectively the inhibition zone formed is 8.58 mm, 9.62 mm, 10.92 mm, 12.27 mm and 14.46 mm. In this study, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Gelinggang leaves with 96% ethanol solvent is effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Gelinggang leaf ethanol extract can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at concentrations of 10% and 20% in the moderate category, while at concentrations of 30%, 40%, and 50% in the strong category.
