Wasting is a word that combines the phrases wasted and severely wasted and is based on a threshold (Z-score) <- 2 SD for Body Weight for Length (W/B) or Weight for Height (BB/TB). The goal of the study at the UPTD Puskesmas Luahagudre Maniamolo, South Nias Regency, was to investigate the risk factors for wasting in children under the age of five. Design with a case control approach. The population of all mothers with toddlers aged 6-59 months in the working area of the UPTD Puskesmas Luahagudre Maniamolo, South Nias Regency, was 795 people. Accidental sampling as many as 43 respondents for the case group and control group. Data analysis used univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. The results showed that there was no relationship between maternal education and wasting in children under five at Luahagudre Maniamolo Health Centre. Each variable that has a significant value <.05 on the variables of mother's occupation, income, infectious disease and history of breastfeeding and the largest Exp(B) value is found in the infectious disease variable. In children under the age of five, the mother's education is not a risk factor for wasting, but the occupation, income, infectious illness, and history of breastfeeding are. Infectious illness is the most significant variable as a risk factor for wasting. It is suggested to Luahagudre Maniamolo Health Center in South Nias Regency to conduct outreach activities to mothers with toddlers, including posbindu or home visits to discuss risk factors for wasting in toddlers and the need to strengthen infectious disease monitoring.
