The intravenous use of dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection is a common therapy in the treatment of various inflammatory and immunologic conditions. However, mixing this injection with other intravenous solutions such as NaCl 0.9%, Dextrose 10%, and Ciprofloxacin may pose a risk of physical and chemical incompatibility that endangers patients. This study aimed to evaluate the compatibility of mixing dexamethasone injection with these three solutions through two methods: mixing in one container and bolus injection using an infusion set. The evaluation was based on visual color and turbidity parameters, pH, particle size and morphology using digital microscopy. The expected results of this study are the identification of potential incompatibilities that can arise due to interactions between injection preparations and infusion solutions, and provide practical recommendations in the management of intravenous drug administration in health care facilities. This research contributes to safer and more rational clinical pharmacy practice.
