ABSTRACT

Social media has become an important tool in shaping adolescents' views on healthy food. The widespread availability of access to various social media platforms has increased students' efforts to search for food preferences. This study aims to explore the influence of social media on adolescents' food preferences at SMA Negeri 3 West Aceh Regency. The research method used was a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, focusing on the frequency of social media use, types of social media content, and interaction with content. The sample involved in this study was 60 people, with details of 20 people from each class. Data analysis used the Chi-square test, which identifies significant relationships between research variables. The results showed that there was a relationship between social media use and adolescents' food preferences (p = 0.016 < 0.05), a significant relationship between types of social media content and adolescents' food preferences (p = 0.005 < 0.05), and a significant relationship between interaction with food content and adolescents' food preferences (p = 0.001 < 0.05). Social media significantly influences adolescents' eating habits. Information and promotions about unhealthy foods on these platforms encourage adolescents to consume excessive calories, potentially damaging their health and nutritional status.
