Student dormitories are temporary residences built as a place for students to live and socialize. Many from various regions outside Aceh made their choice in the city of Banda Aceh, as did students from North Sumatra. The desire of North Sumatra students to study in the city of Banda Aceh as a city of hope. The problem experienced by North Sumatra students in navigating the world of education is the issue of where to live. Students who want to continue their education of course need a place to live until the end of their study period. The more the number of North Sumatra students in Banda Aceh increases, the more problems will arise such as the need for housing, interaction between North Sumatra students and so on. In fact, in Banda Aceh there are no North Sumatra student dormitories. Based on the problems above, North Sumatra students want to have a residence for students in Banda Aceh which is not only used as a residence, but can also facilitate student activities. The results of the analysis discussion are expressed in the form of a planning and design concept for the North Sumatra Student Dormitory in Banda Aceh with the theme Tropical Architecture. The Tropical Architecture theme in this design aims to create an optimal level of comfort. Tropical architecture is a representation of a form concept that was developed based on a response to the climate experienced by the country of Indonesia, namely tropical. The concept of tropical architecture is basically the adaptation of buildings to tropical climates, where tropical conditions require special handling in the design.
