PENGEMBANGAN KEMAMPUAN VOCABULARY BAHASA INGGRIS MELALUI METODE AUDIO LISTENING PADA SISWA KELAS 1 SMPN JAYA ACEH JAYA

Kegiatan berkomunikasi dilakukan secara lisan dan tulisan melalui bahasa. Keterampilan bahasa salah satunya ditentukan oleh penguasaan kosakata. Demikian halnya untuk menguasai bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa kedua di Indonesia. Pada tingkat sekolah menengah pertama, bahasa Inggris tercantum sebagai mata pelajaran muatan local yang artinya waktu yang tersedia untuk pelajaran ini lebih sedikit dari pelajaran lainnya. Hal ini berdampak pada lemahnya penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris bagi para lulusan. Dalam penelitian terhadap 43 orang siswa kelas 1 SMPN 1 Jaya Kabupaten Aceh Jaya melalui metode belajar audio bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris mereka. Melalui metode yang berpusat pada pendengaran ini, siswa diperdengarkan sebuah informasi ringan untuk kemudian dapat menangkap, memahami dan mengingat informasi tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil test yang dilakukan dalam dua tahap ini diketahui bahwa 67.44% (29 orang) siswa dapat melaksanakan kegiatan tersebut sehingga ada perubahan positif dalam penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris mereka.Â

Communication activities are carried out orally and literally through a language. One of language skills is determined by vocabulary mastery. The same goes for mastering English as the second language in Indonesia. At the junior high school level, English is listed as a local content subject, which means that the time available for this lesson is less than for other subjects. This has an impact on the weak mastery of English vocabulary for graduates. This field research to 43 students on the first grade of SMPN 1 Jaya, Aceh Jaya District through audio learning method with the aim to improve the students’ English vocabulary mastery. By applying this hearing-centred method, the students are listened to a light piece of information to then be able to capture, understand and remember the messages. Based on the results of the tests carried out in two stages, it is found that 67.44 % (29 students) who can carry out the activities so that there is a positive change in their English vocabulary mastery.
