VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN KHALED HOSSEINI’S NOVEL A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS
Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan dan menganalisis bentuk-bentuk kekerasan terhadap perempuan dalam novel A Thousand Splendid Suns karya Khaled Hosseini dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif karena isu-isu yang diangkat terkait dengan masalah sosial terutama tindakan yang dilakukan oleh anggota masyarakat dalam menangani perlakuan terhadap perempuan. Kekerasan terhadap perempuan dan anak perempuan terus menjadi epidemi global yang membunuh, menyiksa, dan melukai, secara fisik, psikologis, seksual, dan ekonomi. Kekerasan terhadap perempuan dan anak perempuan merupakan salah satu pelanggaran hak asasi manusia yang paling meluas, yang mengingkari kesetaraan antara laki-laki dan perempuan dalam hal keamanan, martabat, harga diri, dan hak mereka untuk menikmati kebebasan fundamental. Elemen kunci dari kekerasan dalam rumah tangga adalah ketidaknyamanan yang dialami perempuan dalam hubungan tertentu. Teori feminis yang menyatakan bahwa kekerasan terhadap perempuan meliputi pengalaman perempuan, kualitas dalam kesetaraan, perbedaan, seksualitas, patriarki, dan dominasi digunakan sebagai dasar penelitian. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga bentuk kekerasan dalam rumah tangga: kawin paksa, kekerasan dalam rumah tangga, dan penganiayaan. Kawin paksa dipicu oleh tradisi dan ideologi keluarga dan turunannya adalah kekerasan dalam rumah tangga dan penganiayaan. Dengan ini terlihat bahwa ketiga bentuk kekerasan tersebut saling terkait.

The research is aimed at proving and analyzing forms of violence against women in the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns written by Khaled Hosseini by means of descriptive qualitative method as the issues are related to social matters especially the actions taken by members of society dealing with the treatments to women. Violence against women and girls continues to be a global epidemic that kills, tortures, and maims, physically, psychologically. sexually and economically. It is one of the most pervasive violations of human rights, denying equality between men and women in terms of security, dignity. self-worth, and their right to enjoy fundamental freedoms. The key element of domestic violence is inconvenience experienced by women in certain relationships. Feminist theory stating that violence against women cover women's expesience, quality in equality, difference, sexuality patriarchy and domination is used as the base of the research. The findings show that there are three forms of domestic violence: forced marriage, domestic violence and abuse. Forced marriage is triggered by tradition and family ideology and the derivates are domestic violence and abuse. By this it is seen that the three forms of violence are inter-related.
