KIE TENTANG IMD (INISIASI MENYUSI DINI) DI PMB SURYANI KECAMATAN KEMBANG TANJONG KABUPATEN PIDIE TAHUN 2024
Abstract

Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (IMD) is a crucial first step in the breastfeeding process and plays a significant role in accelerating the uterus's return to its pre-pregnancy state and reducing postpartum bleeding. This is because the baby’s suckling at the breast stimulates nerves to send signals to the pituitary gland in the brain, which then releases the hormone oxytocin. Oxytocin not only helps contract the milk ducts in the breast but also stimulates the uterus to contract, thereby speeding up the process of uterine involution (Absari & Riyani, 2018). One key factor influencing the rate of involution is early initiation of breastfeeding. After birth, the baby can feed independently if there is skin-to-skin contact with the mother for at least one hour immediately after delivery. When the baby suckles at the nipple, the smooth muscles in the breast are stimulated, and this stimulation is transmitted to the brain via nerves. The brain then directs the posterior pituitary gland to release oxytocin, which travels through the bloodstream to the smooth muscles in the breast, causing muscle contractions and milk ejection. Oxytocin produced by the pituitary gland also reaches the smooth muscles in the uterus, stimulating uterine contractions. These uterine contractions accelerate the involution process, allowing the uterus to return to its normal size and condition more quickly (Roesli, 2018). The aim of this community service is to enhance knowledge about the importance of Early Initiation of Breastfeeding. The community service method used includes education through lectures and Q&A sessions. The conclusion is that there has been an increase in maternal knowledge about Early Initiation of Breastfeeding. It is recommended that midwives provide education during pregnancy and postpartum and offer guidance to new mothers to improve their understanding of early breastfeeding initiation, as this knowledge will enhance the practice of IMD.
