Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five caused by chronic malnutrition so that children are too short for their age. Malnutrition occurs since the baby is in the womb, but only appears when the baby is two years old. Stunting is caused by not receiving special attention during the first 1000 days of life which determines a person's level of physical growth, intelligence and productivity in the future.
